What these ranges include, and how they are set
Planning allowances, with room for the details.
These are configured indicative allowances, not a measured Edmonton market average or an offer to perform the work. Reviewed 13 October 2026.
- Vinyl floating installation: EVERFLOORING’s planning allowance of $1.50–$2.00 per sq ft.
- Laminate: $2.00–$3.50 per sq ft, informed by LCF Flooring’s Edmonton guide (July 2026).
- Hardwood: local context from LCF Flooring’s $3–$6 labour guide (July 2026). Method-specific allowances also use Alberta comparators.
- Glue-down vinyl, engineered floating, method-specific wood, simple stairs and demolition: provisional planning ranges informed by Great North Flooring’s Calgary labour-only price list. Range endpoints are planning assumptions, not a quoted competitor range or a local average.
- Carpet and sheet-vinyl removal also informed by Art Edge’s Edmonton cost guide. Disposal is excluded from every removal allowance.
Standard work assumptions
Clear, accessible rooms; one existing flooring layer where removal is selected; sound and suitable subfloor; straight installation; supplied, compatible flooring; normal residential access. Installation is counted once, and removal is a separate task on that same area. Do not add overlapping areas.
New construction assumes a cleared, ready work area. Renovation lets you add existing-floor removal and moving requirements. No automatic new-build discount or renovation premium is applied.
Simple stair allowances cover labour for supplied, compatible tread/riser/nosing components on straight, enclosed steps. Materials, refinishing, railings, structural alterations, landings and removal are excluded. Count each step once; enter landings as separate floor zones.
Glue, underlay, flooring, stair parts, disposal, furniture moving, baseboards, transitions, caulking, painting, floor levelling, moisture mitigation and hazardous-material work are not included in standard installation rates. Selected assessment items are additional and never treated as $0.
