A LITTLE PLANNING GOES A LONG WAY

Make room
for the details.

Turn a few measurements into a useful starting point for your flooring project.

Planning quantities are approximate. Actual ordering, layout, preparation, and pricing need a project review.

1. Measure your space

Enter the actual floor area, before extra material for cuts.

A few measuring tips

Keep measurements in one unit. Include closets and alcoves. For an irregular space, divide it into rectangles. Measure landings as floor area and count stair steps separately. Your installer should verify everything before materials are ordered.

2. Add the finishing details

Extra material for cuts
Allow extra material for cuts, typically around 10%. Unique installation patterns or your home’s layout and room shapes may require more than 10%. Have your installer confirm the allowance and final quantity before ordering.

Measure wall runs that need baseboards, excluding doors and openings.
